We believe in green grass, blue skies, fresh air, and happy horses. We believe that small changes have huge impacts. We are dedicated to preserving the planet for the animals we love and their future riders. We hope to educate and inspire equestrians to join us in our quest to clean up horse shows and lessen their environmental impact.
Our Beginning
Green Is the New Blue began when amateur hunter rider Stephanie Bulger attempted to find a spot to graze her horse while at a top A show. They walked around almost the entire property, and though the grass was plentiful and green, it was littered with plastic bottle caps, cigarette butts, and other detritus. Stephanie was dismayed and disappointed, but the proverbial seed was planted. The hunter/jumper industry as a whole can do better. Stephanie believes that we can be stewards for an environmental movement to clean up our small corner of the planet.
“Let every step you take upon the Earth be as a prayer.”
— BLack Elk, oglala lakota holy man
Stephanie began to research ways in which the entire horse show industry can become more eco friendly. There are small changes participants can commit to making that will contribute to a reduction in the carbon footprint of shows all over the country.
Our Goal
Green Is the New Blue has two simple goals: to educate horse show exhibitors and managers about best practices for sustainability and ecological safety, and to provide them the tools to make these changes easy and straightforward to implement.
1 plastic shavings bag
could take up to 300 years to break down.
Discarded baling twine
presents a serious hazard to wildlife, killing endangered bird species and other fauna.
38 billion plastic water bottles
are thrown out each year
